Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 26, 2026
Campout sends text alerts when sold-out campsites become available. To do that, we keep your phone number and the alerts you've created. This policy spells out what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how to make us forget you. Plain English, no surprises.
What we collect
- Your mobile number — required, used to send you the verification code at signup and the alert messages you've explicitly subscribed to.
- Your alerts — the campground, dates, and party-size details you enter when creating a watch.
- An optional name — only if you choose to add one to your profile.
- Authentication cookies — set by Supabase Auth to keep you signed in between visits. No third-party advertising or analytics cookies.
- Server logs — request logs that include your IP address, kept by our hosting provider for short-term debugging and abuse prevention.
We do not collect or store payment data, location, contacts, or anything from your device beyond the above.
Why we collect it
- To send you the SMS you signed up for (verification + cancellation alerts).
- To check campsite availability against the alerts you've created.
- To run the service — keep your account, prevent abuse, and respond if you ask for help.
Who else sees it
Campout uses a small number of trusted vendors to operate. Each receives only what they need:
- Twilio — sends your SMS messages. Receives your phone number and the message body.
- Supabase — stores your account, your alerts, and the catalog of campgrounds. Hosts our database.
- Vercel — runs the website and the alert-checking jobs. Sees request logs.
- Inngest — schedules the cron jobs that check availability. Sees the event payloads (which include alert IDs, not your phone number).
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone else. We do not share with advertisers or data brokers. If we're ever required to disclose data by valid legal process, we'll do the minimum the law requires and tell you when we're allowed to.
SMS specifics
- You opt in by entering your phone number on the signup form and confirming the 6-digit verification code we text you.
- You only receive messages you signed up for: verification codes during sign-in, and alerts for campgrounds you've explicitly added to your watchlist.
- Frequency varies. Most users receive 0–5 messages per week; an active alert on a hot facility can produce more during cancellation bursts.
- Reply STOP to any message to opt out of all SMS. Reply HELP for support. Standard message and data rates may apply depending on your carrier plan.
- Mobile information (phone number, opt-in status) is never shared with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and alerts as long as you have an active account. If you delete your account, we remove your phone number, name, and alerts within 30 days. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days.
Your choices
- Stop all SMS: reply STOP to any Campout message.
- Delete an alert or trip: from your dashboard at /trips.
- Delete your account: email us at the address below. We don't have a self-serve delete button yet; we'll add one soon.
- Request a copy of your data: same — email and we'll send a JSON dump of everything we have on you.
Children
Campout is not intended for anyone under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and we'll remove the account.
Changes
If we change this policy materially, we'll update the date at the top and (if the change affects how we use existing data) notify you by SMS or in-app message before the change takes effect.
